Cisco FY09 TS Fun Event

So we had the “Technical Services ‘09 Fun Event” last night (Wednesday night), and it was really good. Kicked off with the old head handing over the ‘key to the theater’ to the new guy, they were all dressed up in medieval outfit and one had a massive hat on.

After a brief chat about FY09 goals and stuff, a medieval messenger burst onto the stage, announcing that there was a black knight around somewhere and we had to find him. This was done by collecting money by completing various tasks, gathering words to complete a story by figuring out riddles, and answering some departmental style questions for coins. Then we could put our money together to hire mercenaries, who would then find and kill the black knight.

Activities ranged from archery, axe throwing, guessing ingredients in mulled wine, throwing a massive log in the air (my favourite), throwing a huge ball, doing a dance for the messenger guy… all good fun. To get the riddles, you had to cross a small pond with a small precarious boat and give money to a strange professor style man in the island. After that came the big fight with the mercenary, swords and stuff. We stole some rope from the rope making lady (had to get rope to free a captured team mate), and she got furious, apparently you’re not allowed to steal the rope.

The food was cool, steak, lamb, sausage, BBQ stuff, and loads of cakes. Must have had around 6 steaks and loads of profiteroles, so felt ill for a bit but was worth it. Invented the concept of ‘steak and cake’, where you put 3 steaks on the plate then cake next to it, then eat it…

Free bar is a wonderful thing, but this morning I had quite the hangover, surprisingly…
